I haven’t
written here for quite a while, but that is not because I felt lazy or anything
like that. Rather, I did not feel inspired enough to write about anything. None
of the shows and films I saw excited my imagination and fueled my feelings. But
recently this changed. Madonna changed it. Madonna has always been changing
things, breaking taboos, making people talk about her.A lot of other
celebrities are busy doing the same things, but She’s different. She’s
remarkably strong and she’s a survivor. That’s why she deserves admiration,
even just as a person.
I’ve been
meaning to get around to watching In Bed with Madonna for long time. And now I have.
Having read
several reviews of the film afterwards, I learnt that this was one of the first
“live” celebrities films ever to appear on the screen. Madonna started the
trend and a long procession of other celebrities followed.
I cannot
say that In Bed with Madonna was particularly revealing, it had almost no
stories to tell ( well, apart from Madonna meeting her father and brother and
talk about her relatives). Mostly it was made of scenes from her life on the
road. And that’s what I liked, although I have to say it, she was acting for
the camera all the time, I never saw any real emotions or heard any real words
our of her mouth. But then, isn’t it what could be expected from a megastar
like Madonna, who always has to keep her persona for the audience?
In Bed With
Madonna was made not quite in the height of Madonna’s career, rather, it caught
her during her first famous Blond
Ambition Tour in 1989- and the name of the show speaks for itself.
It was the
third concert tour of Madonna, and the first world-wide notorious one.
Notorious for its juxtaposition of Catholic iconography and sexuality- and
excellently choreographed. It received glowing reviews from major magazines of
the world and various rewards for its expressiveness. The Blond Ambition Tour
excited a lot of controversy at the time, and in Canada
the singer was arrested for a masturbation scene in her concert show ( but was
released shortly afterwards). The show was received with tension in Italy , a
Catholic country, and in some other places as well. But this did not stop
Madonna. She went right on with her show, proclaiming artistic freedom of
expression. As we can see in Truth or Dare\In Bed With Madonna, the singer
herself states , "I know that I'm not the best singer and I know that I'm
not the best dancer. But, I can fucking push people's buttons ...”
And so she
does. Bravo.
If you
still haven’t seen Truth or dare\In Bed With Madonna- you’ll be in for some
revelations of who Madonna really is.
